Aspen Acres Fire Response – Recap

Here is an update to our response of the Aspen Acres Fire alongside Red Cross Colorado.

Dear Team and Colorado Pet Pantry Supporters,

I wanted to let you all know that Colorado Pet Pantry has been on the front lines offering assistance to the evacuees who have participated in the Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) alongside the American Red Cross of Colorado.

At the DAC, evacuees were assisted with up-to-the-minute fire information, assistance with insurance filing claims, DMV services, shelter information and food, provided by Care & Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado, and more.

Colorado Pet Pantry assisted Humane Society Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) with the care and wellbeing of both dogs and cats, when the community was in need of help. HSPPR & HSPPR’s Community Animal Response Team (CART) volunteers were activated early on at evacuation shelters, assisting evacuees with their pets in both Pueblo and Fremont Counties.

I want to thank Colorado Pet Pantry Warehouse Staff, who were ready to gather up last-minute supplies, so we could get them out to the community efficiently. Together with Colorado Pet Pantry Lead Volunteer, Susie, myself and various other volunteers, we were able to assist new clients with food and supplies, as well as spread awareness about Colorado Pet Pantry. Our presence at the DAC had a direct positive impact on our community here, and in the Southeast region of Colorado.

Because of our swift response, pet owners had access to pet food, beds, collars, leashes, treats, toys and more. During these moments, community members rely on each other, and I am proud that Colorado Pet Pantry was able to be part of the fire response in our area and elsewhere in the state.

Here is a break down of food and supplies that were provided to evacuees during their time of need.

  • Dog Food: 2,320 pounds distributed in small bags
  • Cat Food: 800 pounds of small bags
  • Wet Cat Food: 77 cases
  • Beds: 113 pet beds
  • Carries/Crates/Kennels: 20
  • CBD Calming Treats: 11 cases
  • Toys: 450+
  • Collars/Harnesses/Leashes: 220
  • Treats: 4 Cases

Each part of our organization played a pivotal role in procuring and processing donations and providing assistance to our clients, whether by sharing pantry information at tabling events in the communities, helping out at our pantries, sharing on social media, or by phone/email.

Sincerely,

Manny Arizala
