Fostering
Denver: Humane Colorado Pet Assist Program

The Pet Assist program helps those needing a temporary safe place for their pet to live due to various factors that leave them unable to care for their animals and when no other assistance is available. The animals are cared for through foster home placement. Pet assist is a short-term program, but each case is assessed based on the owner’s specific circumstances and the resources of the shelter.
Please note: The fastest way to receive help is to apply below. Foster placement may take up to two weeks. Response time is currently 48-72 hours. Thank you in advance for your patience.
Castle Rock: ResPet Colorado

ResPet is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) volunteer-based organization, dedicated to keeping pets in a safe environment during their owner’s crisis ultimately ensuring that pets and their families stay together once the owners emerge from their crisis. By working with a network of volunteer advocates, foster caregivers, local crisis lines and services, mental health providers, police departments, hospitals and other shelters, ResPet will be able to re-unify thousands of pets with their original owners after the crises have subsided. We believe no animal should be mistreated or left behind and are working towards a day when no pet has to be placed in a shelter when their owner has no more options for their care during a crisis.
Denver: Denver Animal Shelter Safe Haven Program

The Denver Animal Shelter has a Safe Haven Program that provides temporary housing to care and keep families together. They offer two to four weeks of shelter for pets of families experiencing temporary homelessness. This could be due to fire, domestic violence, or hospitalization. They also provide this service to pet owners experiencing homelessness during severe cold weather (under 15 degrees). Many pet owners do not want to give up their animals but need short-term assistance to focus on tasks that can get them into a new home.
PARTICIPATION IN THE SAFE HAVEN PROGRAM REQUIRES REFERRALS FROM A CASE WORKER. If you need assistance, you or your case worker can contact our Safe Haven coordinator at DAPTempPetHousing@denvergov.org or call (720) 337-1813.
Fort Collins: Until They’re Home

This is why we created a temporary fostering program – so that you can know your animal is in a safe and loving home while you get back on your feet until you can get them back. This program is open to clients outside of the Fort Collins area.
