August is National Make-A-Will Month, a time to reflect on the legacy we want to leave behind.
While making a will may not be the most exciting task, it’s one of the most powerful ways you can make a lasting difference—for the people you love, the causes you care about, and the future you want to shape.
At Colorado Pet Pantry, our mission is simple: to keep pets with the families who love them by providing the pet food and support they need during financial hardships. Since 2013, we’ve distributed approximately 46 million meals across Colorado, helping ensure no one has to choose between feeding themselves or their beloved pet.
By including Colorado Pet Pantry in your will or estate plans, you can ensure your compassion continues for years to come.
Why Consider a Gift in Your Will?
- It’s impactful. Even a small portion of your estate can provide thousands of meals for pets in need.
- It costs nothing today. A gift in your will doesn’t affect your current finances or lifestyle.
- It’s flexible. You can update your will at any time, and you remain in control.
- It creates a legacy of kindness. Your values live on through continued care for animals and families across Colorado.
How to Include Us in Your Will
Leaving a bequest or gifts that are made as part of a will or trust is simple. Here’s how to do it in three easy steps:
1. Decide what kind of gift you want to leave.
You can choose to leave:
- A specific amount of money or item (like a vehicle or piece of jewelry)
- A percentage of your total estate (for example, 10%)
- Other assets like stock, bonds, or real estate
You can also name us as a beneficiary of things like a retirement account or life insurance policy.
2. Name Colorado Pet Pantry in your will.
To make sure your gift goes to the right place, include our:
- Full name: Colorado Pet Pantry
- Address: PO Box 323 Boulder, CO 80306
- EIN: 45-4210185
- Mission: The Colorado Pet Pantry will temporarily feed Colorado pets allowing families to increase their ability to care for pets with the goal of keeping them out of shelters and with their families.
You can choose what kind of beneficiary you’d like us to be:
- Primary: We receive the gift directly.
- Secondary: We receive the gift if your primary beneficiary is no longer living.
- Residuary: We receive the gift that wasn’t explicitly named to a beneficiary in your will.
3. (Optional) Let us know.
You don’t have to tell us, but we’d love the chance to thank you and make sure we respect your wishes. If you’ve already included Colorado Pet Pantry in your will, please let us know. We’d be honored to recognize your incredible commitment to keeping pets safe, fed, and with the families who love them. Let us know at info@coloradopetpantry.org.
