As federal food aid decreases, more families turn to us to help feed their pets.

On August 27th, Colorado Public Radio highlighted the heartbreaking reality food banks across Colorado are facing: longer lines, emptier shelves, and fewer resources to meet the growing need. Cuts to federal food assistance programs are hitting families hard, forcing individuals and families to stretch less food further and often leaving gaps on dinner tables.

But here’s the part that isn’t always told: when families struggle to put food on their own plates, their pets are at risk, too.

At Colorado Pet Pantry, we see this every day. Families who love their pets deeply are suddenly forced to make impossible choices when money and food run short. Our focus is to ensure no one has to decide between feeding themselves or feeding their furry family members.

Like our partner human food banks, we are feeling the ripple effects of these federal cuts. Even though Colorado Pet Pantry, a statewide nonprofit, does not receive any federal funding, with less food assistance available for humans, more families are turning to us for help with pet food. All our pantries throughout Colorado are feeling the strain.

We need your help to keep tails wagging and families together.
