Our hearts go out to the families affected by the flooding that continues in Southwestern Colorado. Please know that we have boots on the ground, and are coordinating with local emergency management teams to create the best strategy for helping pet families in the area.
As of October 17th:
We are with the American Red Cross at Vallecito Community Event Center.
Jan, pictured here (right) was one of the residents who had to quickly evacuate from her home next to the river outside of Bayfield, Colorado. She was unable to bring her cat, Noah, with her. Under the impression she wasn’t going to be gone long, Jan became worried about her precious feline.
The flood took her shed and part of her yard, but her house and her furry friend were ok. She has been reunited with Noah, was grateful to receive pet food assistance at the distribution center event in Vallecito.
As of October 15th:
Colorado Pet Pantry has delivered supplies to La Plata County Humane Society, Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, and we are continuously coordinating with the American Red Cross, who has a pet friendly shelter open and accepting those displaced by the floods.
Our Pet Comfort Kits, in addition to collars, crates, leashes and pet food are being utilized in real-time to offer much-needed support to many who lost everything. It is our honor and thanks to our supporters that we have the ability to assist during natural disasters.
As we cling to the news about another natural disaster happening in Colorado, we are reminded about the power and strength of community. We are no strangers to these types of events, and when we pull together and take care of one another, we become stronger because of it.
